On Wednesday 19th December the student voice charity group spent the morning in Leighton Buzzard distributing flowers/ hampers and sweets in the community.
A full sized coach kindly supplied by Marshalls Coaches was filled to the brim with gifts the charity group had collected.
The group co-ordinated hampers filled with tins/ packets and Christmas goodies from every tutor group and also used money raised during the year to buy floral arrangements and chocolates. the PTA supported them by donating prizes to raffles held for the cause at "Vandyke Will Rock You" which raised over £200.
The group visited Laburnum Court Sheltered Housing where they chatted to residents and gave gifts. The coach then took them to Westlands Care Home where residents were treated to poinsettias and chocolates, students also sang which was very well received. Last stop was a drop off food for the Leighton Linslade Homeless Service. The organisers were very grateful for the contributions.
The students involved found the experience emotional, fantastic, sad at times but fun . Year 10 student Matthew Wallis wants all students to do more for people in our community, "giving time is one of the most precious things" he said. The group plan to continue fundraising in the New Year and will be organising a blanket collection for the homeless. Year 9 student Brad Sharrett said "These people need help all year round not just at Christmas"
